In 2025, 98 Volunteers donated 12,667 hours to MOCSA which included 334 visits to local hospitals to support survivors! Their contributions are valued at $441,033 based on national averages of volunteer time.
We could not do the work we do without their dedication and support. We’re deeply grateful for the contributions of our Volunteers and are honored to have them as part of the MOCSA family.
Here is a highlight of only a handful of the many incredible volunteers we're lucky to work with.
Min Jung (they/them)
Min is a Project Aware Youth Educator and Speakers Bureau member. They work part-time with the Kansas City Royals as a Tour Guide, mostly leading student field trips, and at the Kansas City Art Institute as an artist model. In their free time, they enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers, knitting, and quilting, and are active in both a local quilt guild and quilt group.
“I love MOCSA’s mission. When I was looking for a volunteer opportunity after moving to Kansas City, nothing felt right until I found MOCSA,” Min said.
“As a survivor myself, I welcomed the opportunity to help others, whether proactively or reactively.”

Min says one of the most meaningful parts of volunteering is their work with Project Aware, where they connect with young students about important topics like bodily autonomy and boundaries.
“Helping students identify safe adults in their lives, people they can go to if they ever need support, that’s really important to me.”
One meaningful moment came when a student gifted them a friendship bracelet after a Project Aware session.
“I wore it for a long time before the band gave out, but I still have the charms on my nightstand. That was really special to me.”
Min also shared appreciation for the volunteer experience overall.
“The volunteer coordinators make volunteering a pure pleasure. I can’t imagine volunteering anywhere else being as easy, fun, or worthwhile. MOCSA makes sure volunteers are appreciated and taken care of at every turn.”

Monica Gray (she/her)
Monica is a MOCSA Board Member, Hospital Advocate, Community Outreach volunteer and Speakers Bureau member. With more than 20 years of experience providing executive support in planning, finance, and business operations, she brings both professionalism and compassion to her work. Monica values faith, family, and philanthropy, and in her free time she enjoys reading and running.
“MOCSA came to my rescue in the early 2000s, and I made it my mission to run to the rescue of survivors and stand by their side,” Monica said.

She says the most impactful part of volunteering is being able to support survivors in meaningful, empowering ways.
“Listening without judgment, reminding survivors they are not alone, and empowering them to reclaim their strength and take back their power, that’s what matters most to me.”
Monica shares that every hospital response holds deep meaning.
“It is always deeply meaningful each time a survivor places their trust in MOCSA and in me to stand beside them and offer support during one of the most difficult and frightening moments of their life.”
She also reflects on the broader impact of MOCSA’s mission.
“The abuser takes power over the victim, and MOCSA helps survivors take that power back. They did that for me.”

Sarah Noble (she/her)
Sarah is a Community Outreach volunteer and Speakers Bureau member. She is an HR leader by day and an advocate by night, passionate about creating safe, supportive spaces both in the workplace and in her community. Sarah is married to her middle school sweetheart, Dylan, and is a proud aunt to her nieces, Bella and Sophia. In her free time, she enjoys stand-up comedy and creative writing, and is currently working on a book that blends her healing journey with insights and resources for others navigating trauma.

“I chose to become a MOCSA volunteer because I’m a survivor and want to support others on their healing journey,” Sarah said.
“I believe in creating spaces where survivors feel heard, believed, and empowered, and that no one has to navigate their experience alone.”
Sarah says one of the most meaningful parts of volunteering is the strong sense of community.
“From the very beginning, it feels like being in a room full of people who just get it. There’s an unspoken understanding and compassion that makes the work even more meaningful.”
She also shares that moments of disclosure are especially impactful.
“Every time someone shares that they are a survivor is incredibly meaningful. It takes courage to say ‘me too,’ and knowing something I said or did helped them feel safe enough to share their story is deeply moving.”
Sarah emphasizes the importance of the work and the community behind it.
“This work matters. Even when the world feels heavy, it’s still possible to make a difference. The sense of home you feel as a MOCSA volunteer is unmatched.”
