In 2025, our Eastern Jackson County location added a dedicated sand tray therapy room and launched a new sand tray therapy group.
Our new Main Office now includes two brand new sand tray therapy rooms. This expansion increased access to trauma-informed care for survivors.
Sand tray therapy offers survivors a way to express thoughts, emotions, and experiences that may be difficult to put into words.
Because trauma is often stored through images and bodily sensations, the tactile and visual elements of sand tray work allow clients to explore their experiences in a grounded and supportive way.
The contained space of the sand tray can also feel less overwhelming than traditional talk therapy, helping survivors safely engage with complex memories and emotions.
As clients build scenes using miniature objects, they can symbolically represent their experiences, gain new perspectives, and begin to reshape personal narratives.
Many survivors describe this process as empowering because they can “see” their story and interact with it in ways that support healing.
Thanks to donor support, this innovative therapy is helping expand meaningful pathways to healing for survivors of sexual violence in Kansas City.
