MOCSA’s Education Team expanded efforts across the community by investing in bystander intervention training.
In preparation for the 2026 World Cup, MOCSA ramped up SAFE Training promotion and working with businesses across Kansas City to create safer public spaces where everyone can gather with confidence.
Our SAFE (Sexual Assault Free Environment) Training equips hospitality staff with practical tools to recognize concerning behaviors, intervene safely, and offer support.
"The biggest takeaway is teaching people to notice, to listen to their instincts, and how they can help interrupt cycles of violence."
Research shows sexual violence can increase during large-scale events, making preparedness a critical investment in community safety. SAFE Training sessions focus on recognizing power dynamics, understanding consent, and practicing real-world intervention strategies.
"The question is not why will I step in but how will I step in, no matter what," Chiko Hibino, MOCSA Bilingual Coordinator of Youth Programs, said.
Through donor generosity, MOCSA expanded this work, helping businesses feel empowered to protect customers while also providing information about survivor support services and crisis resources. This work helps ensure more people can safely enjoy community spaces in Kansas City.
