October 19, 2024 was a memorable night as MOCSA raised nearly $255,000 during the 20th annual Night Out with MOCSA fundraising event.
The Midland Theatre was packed with guests dressed in their best masquerade attire, ready for an exciting evening of dancing, gourmet cuisine, an open bar, and bidding on a wide selection of art, jewelry, and much more—all while supporting both MOCSA and survivors.
“The entire evening came together beautifully, and it was so much fun seeing everyone dressed up in their masks!” said Lisa New, Night Out With MOCSA Event Committee Co-Chair.
“A massive thank you to the committee and staff for their hard work planning and organizing, and the attendees who opened their hearts and wallets to support MOCSA.”
Darron Story served as emcee for the night, with auctioneer Trisha Brauer stepping in to lead an entertaining live auction. The event also featured survivor speaker Caroline Markel, who shared her empowering story with the audience.
Caroline, CEO and founder of SafeInHarmsWay.org, began her speech with a reminder of how oftentimes, the perpetrators of sexual assault are those who know and claim to “love” the people they harm. For Caroline, this was her fiancé.
She goes on to explain how, despite many hardships and obstacles, resources such as the counseling and prevention services available at MOCSA have aided her in her journey to where she is today.
“Because of my time with MOCSA, I have crafted an incredible after… a joy and soul-fueled after that has allowed me to thrive, and navigate the challenges that long-term sexual abuse can sometimes trigger.”
The funds raised will go towards ensuring that these resources, along with educational materials and advocacy services, will continue to be provided to survivors and community members at no cost.
“In all my travels across this great globe, there is no one like MOCSA. I am who I am because of this organization.”
Caroline Markel, Survivor Speaker
