MOCSA’s 30th Annual Community Luncheon inspired all who attended and the fundraiser raised nearly $400,000 to support survivors of sexual assault.

Expressing gratitude with a simple “thank you” feels inadequate. The incredible generosity of every single donor fills us with love, hope, and positivity.

Thanks to the generous financial support, survivors will continue to benefit from MOCSA services without any financial burden.

“Everyone deserves to feel
safe and whole.”

Those gathered were moved by the touching words of Keynote Speaker Sarah Klein.

Sarah, a former competitive gymnast, testified about the abuse she endured from former team doctor, Larry Nassar.

Sarah is now a trial attorney at Manly, Stewart & Finaldi, exclusively representing victims of sexual abuse and assault.

Kim Bergman, Survivor Speaker, shined light on how sexual assault can happen to anyone as she recounted how she was sexually assaulted at 12 years old by her former gymnastics coach.

Twenty years after falling in love with the sport, Kim was inspired by a new group of gymnasts. A group of courageous survivors emerged and began telling their stories. Survivors like Sarah Klein, became fierce advocates for others, and began breaking the silence about child sexual abuse.

In 2023, Kim, along with her group Protecting KS Children from Sexual Predators, was able to help pass Kansas HB2127.

HB2127 is a statute of limitations bill that passed unanimously in both the House and the Senate and was signed into law by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly.

The bill removed the criminal statute of limitations and increased the civil statute of limitations from age 21 to 31.

“The effects of rape, sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse last a lifetime. And MOCSA provides resources that survivors and their families need to get through and manage during the most difficult times in their lives.”
