Education in Schools

Elementary Education: Project Aware

Project Aware is MOCSA’s sexual abuse prevention education program for children in pre-k through 5th grade, as well as their parents and teachers. Project Aware educates students about body safety in an age-appropriate manner, and teaches adults about their role in preventing child sexual abuse. This program is available to schools in Missouri and is offered in English and Spanish.

Middle and High School Education

Sexual violence is an issue that young people in all communities face, regardless of race, ethnicity or economic background. MOCSA’s education presenters reach students in more than 30 school districts in the Kansas City metro area, on both sides of the state line. Our educators communicate challenging subject matter in a manner that is engaging, informative, realistic, and age-appropriate. MOCSA’s presentations utilize a variety of teaching methods including group discussion, lecture, question and answer sessions, and activities designed to enhance learning and behavior change. Our free-of-charge presentations are available in both English and Spanish.

Professional Training

Advanced Professional Training

Training for advocates, counselors, law enforcement and other professionals is available to fit the needs of your group. Topics may include:

  • Introduction to Title IX
  • Advanced Sexual Assault Dynamics
  • Trauma Informed Response
  • Children with Sexual Behavior Problems
  • Child Sexual Abuse Treatment

SAFE Training for Bars and Restaurants

The program focuses on training bar and restaurant staff to recognize potentially harmful situations and give them the tools to intervene effectively to prevent sexual violence and support survivors.

MOCSA’s SAFE (Sexual Assault Free Environment) Training is modeled after similar programs, such as Ask for Angela in Lincolnshire, England and the Safe Bar Alliance in Lawrence, KS. Communities around the world agree that prevention is possible and that partnering with bars and restaurants generates new energy and allies who are eager to prevent sexual violence.

  • Stewards of Children (Child Sexual Abuse) –  teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
  • Sexual Assault – learn the definitions, myths and facts, the laws of consent for Kansas and Missouri, and how to support survivors.

Violence Prevention

Through our community coalitions around the metro, MOCSA and our partners are addressing violence at its root. By working together with other organizations, neighborhood residents, city and county agencies, schools and faith communities, we can prevent sexual violence before it happens by connecting neighbors, changing policies, and making our communities more equitable.
