Volunteer

Volunteers are the cornerstone of our agency and provide important services to the community that otherwise would not exist.

Through volunteering at MOCSA, you join a community of diverse individuals who are dedicated to ending sexual violence in our society. MOCSA has many opportunities for Volunteers interested in serving their community and working to end sexual violence. We greatly appreciate the amazing passion, dedication and skill that MOCSA volunteers bring to our organization and the community.

How to become a MOCSA Volunteer

  1. Start by Submitting a Volunteer Application.
  2. Interview: After we receive your completed application, you’ll be contacted to set up a 30-minute Zoom interview. After the interview, appropriate candidates will be invited to attend training.
  3. Training: Our 40-hour training program is a combo of self-paced online training courses and a weekend training session with MOCSA staff. Training sessions are offered quarterly.
  4. Paperwork: All Volunteers and Interns are required to complete the following prior to service: Background Check, Fingerprint Registry, Program Contract and Media Release.

Frequently Asked Questions about volunteering for MOCSA

Q: Who can Volunteer?
A: MOCSA has opportunities for individuals of all genders and backgrounds, survivors and non-survivors. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, have access to transportation and a phone, be sensitive to issues of sexual assault and abuse, and have effective communication and listening skills. Prospective volunteers and interns are required to complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting process.

Q: What is the time commitment?
A: Time commitments vary based on position – see the above position descriptions for more information. We ask all Volunteers to commit to at least one year of service with MOCSA.

Q: Do you accept Interns at MOCSA?
A: Yes. Requests from students seeking internships or service learning opportunities are fully reviewed and considered based on the student and agency’s needs and requirements. Internship and practicum responsibilities include providing crisis line and advocacy support to clients, and may include facilitating individual and group counseling services, organizing community education and outreach efforts, and assisting with program development and event planning.
